  2. San Francisco Board of Supervisors, member (1970-1978)/serving as president (1970-1971, 1974-1975, 1978);
  3. Mayor of San Francisco (1978-1988);
  4. Bank of California, director (1988-1989);
  5. San Francisco Education Fund’s Permanent Fund, co-chair (1988-1989);
  6. United States Senate, senator (elected in a special election on November 3, 1992; reelected in 1994, 2000, 2006, 2012, and again in 2018 for the term ending January 3, 2025).

Feinstein was the first woman president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the first woman mayor of San Francisco, the first woman elected Senator of California, the first woman member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, the first woman to chair the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, the first woman to chair the Senate Intelligence Committee and the first woman to serve as ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee, the first woman to have presided over a U.S. presidential inauguration.
